Data Definitions
Fiscal Year:  July 1 through June 30th of a given year (e.g. Fiscal Year 2020 is July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020).
Salaries, Wages & Benefits:  Amounts paid as compensation for services to all employees (faculty, staff, part-time, full-time, regular employees, and student employees). This also includes the corresponding expense for benefits provided to employees.
Auxiliary Services:  Expenses for essentially self-supporting operations of the institution that exist to furnish a service to students, faculty, or staff, and that charge a fee that is directly related to the cost of the service. Examples include residence halls, food services, college stores.
Depreciation:  The allocation or distribution of the cost of capital assets, less any salvage value, to expenses over the estimated useful life of the asset.
Instruction:  Expenses of the schools, departments, and other instructional divisions of the University. Excludes expenses for academic administration. May include corresponding salaries and wages, if not separately reported.
Student Services:  Expenses for admissions, registrar activities, and activities whose primary purpose is to contribute to the emotional and physical well-being of the students, and to their intellectual, cultural, and social development outside the context of the formal instructional program. May include corresponding salaries and wages, if not separately reported.
Institutional Support:  Expenses for the day-to-day operational support of the institution, including general administrative services, legal and fiscal operations, human resource operations, public relations, and development. May include corresponding salaries and wages, if not separately reported.
Research:  Expenses for activities specifically organized to produce research outcomes, and commissioned by an agency either external to the institution or separately budgeted by an organizational unit within the institution. May included corresponding salaries and wages, if not separately reported.
Academic Support:  Expenses of activities and services that support the institution’s primary missions of instruction, research, and public service. May include corresponding salaries and wages, if not separately reported.
Excelsior:  New York State implemented the Excelsior Scholarship program in Fall 2017 which provides free tuition to NYS residents attending SUNY/CUNY institutions.
UGC Merger:  On February 1, 2016, Union Graduate College merged with Clarkson University and became Clarkson University;'s Capital Region Campus (CRC).
